It's About Time

Almost two months ago I moved to Denver from my roots in Nebraska. Today is the day I finally write my first blog. My timing is impeccable.

I say that with all kinds of mockery toward myself. Typically one will time a first with a big change in his or her life. I, however, decided to go against the grain and wait nearly eight weeks to start my blog. Why? Out of sheer boredom as I wait for time to pass.

Time is such a tricky variable. We as the impatient human race that we are will never be satisfied with time. It goes too slowly while you wait to hear back on the job that may or may not be THE JOB that jump starts your career. It goes too quickly when you're trying to pack your life away into 37 labeled boxes in preparation for a big move. Planning your big day? Time can't go by fast enough until the day you marry the love of your life, but - wait! - how am I going to find the time to get everything ready? (Side note: I have no experience whatsoever in this arena. The prior statements were based solely on the hearsay of several close friends currently planning weddings). Football season and tailgates can't get here soon enough, but before you know it, it's March Madness. If I were time, I'd be as confused as all confusion goes regarding what people want.

What we forget to do is appreciate the value of time. Ask the Olympic athlete who misses out on the Gold by .001 seconds. Ask the Sea of Red (fury) about the value of one second that gets put back onto the clock. Ask the cancer patient who's been told he has six months to live and two years later is still thanking God for each day he's been blessed with.

I'm guilty of all of this. I sit twiddling my thumbs as the days not only drag on while I wait to hear about the dream job that I moved out here for, but as the days simply fly by as next month's rent is due. So what I'm trying to do is take a deep breath and tell myself that time is in God's hands. All I can do with the time I'm given is enjoy it and use it to the best of my ability.

Now might be an ideal time for me to replace the battery in my watch that hasn't ticked in a few months...
